What is Clinical Pilates?

Sabrene_2Clinical Pilates is a unique, evidence-based form of exercise that incorporates the use of exercises on spring loaded equipment and mats providing a safe, effective and highly specific exercise method for all ages and levels of fitness.

We offer personalised Clinical Pilates programs that are designed and implemented by qualified physiotherapists to ensure you receive a dynamic, effective regimen specific to your needs.  Our goal is to improve both your posture and your ability to perform day-to-day activities, whilst managing the risk of developing musculoskeletal conditions.  The benefits to athletic performance come through:

  • increased control of movement,
  • improved core stability and muscle activation,
  • improved flexibility, balance and co-ordination,
  • increased ability to prevent and manage injury.

So how is Clinical Pilates different from regular Pilates?  Firstly, we’ll perform a clinical assessment.  This includes a thorough musculoskeletal screening and posture analysis which is the first step in building your program.  Secondly, we’ll use manual techniques to assess your core muscle activation, then train you how to engage your core correctly by eliminating any uncontrolled muscle activity. Finally, functional tests examining load transfer and muscle length are carried out to determine any weaknesses and we’ll supervise your training using the Pilates equipment, offering ongoing clinical assessment into your body’s preferred movement direction while you work for the best possible results.
